 Video del Programa Mujer, Salud y Liderazgo Generacion 2009- 2010 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJLS8bi7Plw Círculos de Mujeres/The Women’s Circles Breast Health and Breast Cancer Education Project The Círculos de Mujeres Project is a culturally specific program to conduct outreach and education regarding breast health and breast cancer to approximately Latina women in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.The Project focuses primarily in West Contra Costa County where resources for uninsured women are very limited.Four trained Community Educators coordinate pláticas (discussions) to promote breast health, address myths associated with breast cancer, and provide accurate information about early detection and screening including self-exams, clinical exams, and mammograms. El Día Legislativo/Latina Legislative Day An annual Latina Legislative Day brings Latina women from the Bay Area to Sacramento to meet with California legislators and Latina/o leaders in Sacramento.The Legislative Day gives participants the opportunity to speak on behalf of their community and educate legislative staff about critical issues. Familiar-Enough! Together Let's End Family Violence !Ya Basta! is a culturally specific model for preventing and intervening in family violence in the Latino community that is comprehensive, holistic and based on the cultural values and strengths of both the family and the community.It is comprised of several interrelated components including: 1) Peer-facilitated support groups for women using the Circulos Comunitarios/Community Circles model designed by The Latina Center; 2) Los Amigos/Friends Community Coalition to improve collaboration and programs that meet the needs of Latino families in West Contra Costa county; 3) Latina en tu Ayuda/Latinas Helping Latinas, a Community Advocates program provides a 40-hour domestic violence training in Spanish, outreach, education, court accompaniment, systems navigation, and peer support; and 4) Individual counseling for women and children that is offered in Spanish and culturally relevant. Primero Nuestros Niños/Our Children First Primero Nuestros Niños is a culturally and linguistically specific parenting education and support program.Using an evidence-based curriculum (STEP), The Latina Center provides parenting education and support to primarily low income, immigrant, monolingual/bilingual Latino parents in a 12-week parenting class to support strong emotional, social and educational development of children and youth in Western Contra Costa County. The Family Development Credential Since 2004, The Latina Center has collaborated with Contra Costa College to offer the Family Development Credential, a job training, empowerment skills and educational advancement program for low income Latinos with limited educational access who work, or aspire to work, in the field of health and human services and/or family support.Offered in Spanish for community college credit, this is the only program of its kind currently operating in Alameda or Contra Costa Counties. The Latina Community Women's Health Leadership Program (MSL) The goal of the MSL program is to improve the health of Latina women and their families by offering skills-based trainings (i.e. time management, budgeting, project planning, community outreach, advocacy, health seminars, reflection on leadership styles, peer networking, and expanded access to community resources) for 25-30 Latina women Peer Leaders in Alameda and Contra Costa County each year.MSL values individual skills and acknowledges the women’s sharing, caring and helping roles in their family and community.As part of the MSL program, Peer Leaders design and implement a “learning project” to meet an identified community need.Projects, such as peer support groups, community surveys and educational forums, provide culturally and linguistically relevant support, bring women and their families together, and contribute to individual and community empowerment while helping The Latina Center reach Latina women, men, young people and children about topics such as nutrition, physical activity, domestic violence, child abuse, cancer, diabetes, child development, financial literacy, art, cultural heritage and parenting.
